چکیده

We determined the effect of inhaled corticosteroid, budesonide, on the release of the anti-inflammatory cytokine, interleukin-10 (IL-10), and of pro-inflammatory cytokines, macrophage inflammatory protein-1 a (MIP-1 a ), interferong (IFNg ), and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), from blood monocytes and alveolar macrophages of mild asthmatic subjects in a doubleblind, cross-over, placebo-controlled study. Budesonide reduced bronchial hyperresponsiveness and improved baseline FEV 1 . Alveolar macrophages were obtained by bronchoalveolar lavage performed at the end of each treatment phase. IL-10 from blood monocytes was not altered, but both IL-10 mRNA and protein expression from alveolar macrophages stimulated by lipopolysaccharide and IL-1 b

THE ROLE OF ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES IN THE PRODUCTION OF COLONY –STIMULATING FACTOR BY THE LUNG

The role of alveolar macrophages in the production of granulocyte/ macrophage colony-stimulating factor(s) by the rat lung was investigated. Lavaged lungs, when incubated at proper weight per volume of culture medium, produced the same amount of colony-stimulating factor as unlavaged ones. Both lavaged and unlavaged lungs produced similar types of colony-stimulating factor (s). Prolonged i...

Thymomodulin increases release of granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor and of tumour necrosis factor in vitro.

To evaluate the effects of thymomodulin (TMD), a thymic biological response modifier derived from calf thymus, on the release of various cytokines involved in the lung immune reactions, human alveolar macrophages (AM) and peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) were cultured either alone or in co-cultures. In co-cultures of AM with PBL, TMD did not induce any change in gamma-interferon (gamma-IFN) a...

Alveolar macrophage-epithelial cell interaction following exposure to atmospheric particles induces the release of mediators involved in monocyte mobilization and recruitment

BACKGROUND Studies from our laboratory have shown that human alveolar macrophages (AM) and bronchial epithelial cells (HBEC) exposed to ambient particles (PM10) in vitro increase their production of inflammatory mediators and that supernatants from PM10-exposed cells shorten the transit time of monocytes through the bone marrow and promote their release into the circulation. METHODS The prese...

Anti-inflammatory effect of myristicin on RAW 264.7 macrophages stimulated with polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid.

Myristicin (1-allyl-5-methoxy-3,4-methylenedioxybenzene) is an active aromatic compound found in nutmeg (the seed of Myristica fragrans), carrot, basil, cinnamon, and parsley. Myristicin has been known to have anti-cholinergic, antibacterial, and hepatoprotective effects, however, the effects of myristicin on virus-stimulated macrophages are not fully reported. In this study, the anti-inflammator...

Functional analysis of mature hematopoietic cells from mice lacking the betac chain of the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor receptor.

Mice with a null mutation of the betac chain of the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interleukin-3 (IL-3), and IL-5 receptors (betac-null mice) develop an alveolar proteinosis-like lung disease. The pathogenesis of this disease is uncertain and, although a defect in alveolar macrophage function has been postulated, no previous analysis of mature hematopoietic cells in ...
